Vol. 476 No. 4

Written Answers. - Dublin Bay Seabed Levels.

Ivor Callely

Ceist:

13 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for the Marine if his attention has been drawn to public concern over seabed levels in Dublin Bay, particcularly the situation at the causeway to Bull Island, Dublin 3; and his views on the proposal that the causeway should be breached to allow tidal flow and ensure that Bull Island remains an island. [7030/97]

I am aware that there is some public concern over seabed levels in Dublin Bay in the area at the causeway to Bull Island.

The findings of the consultant's study on siltation levels at the causeway at Bull Island commissioned by Dublin Corporation have been published and the options proposed to address the matter including proposals to breach the causeway are being considered by Dublin Corporation with a view to adopting the most appropriate one.

I will assess any proposal to breach the causeway, which was constructed on State-owned foreshore by Dublin Corporation, when and if it is submitted to me for approval in accordance with the requirements of the Foreshore Acts.
