Cecilia Keaveney

Ceist:

128 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for the Environment the estimated cost of providing sewerage schemes for each county in the next five years to enable European directives to be complied with; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7405/97]

Cecilia Keaveney

Ceist:

129 Cecilia Keaveney asked the Minister for the Environment the funding supports, if any, available for group sewerage scheme provision in rural Ireland in areas which will not be considered as major or minor urban zones; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7406/97]

Group sewerage scheme grants of up to £1,600 per house are payable where two or more households combine to provide a common sewerage system.

Willie O'Dea

Ceist:

130 Mr. O'Dea asked the Minister for the Environment the proposals, if any, he has received from Limerick County Council for improvements to the Limerick main drainage system; if so, when he will issue a response to these proposals; and if he will include the Mungret area as requested. [7407/97]

The Limerick main drainage scheme, with an estimated cost of £87 million, is one of the major environmental projects being assisted under the Cohesion Fund. The recently completed preliminary report for this scheme is currently under examination in my Department. EU co-financing has been approved for stage one of the scheme, consisting of the planning of the collection system and waste water treatment plant together with the construction of a section of the interceptor sewers, the prior construction of which is needed to facilitate major road and canal developments locally.

The planning of the Limerick main drainage scheme is being co-ordinated by Limerick Corporation. The collection system proposed will serve the city and its environs, including areas in County Limerick, namely, Mungret-Gouldavoher and Coonagh-Clonmacken, which had been the subject of earlier proposals from Limerick County Council.
