Vol. 476 No. 7

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Eric J. Byrne

Ceist:

227 Mr. E. Byrne asked the Minister for Education if her attention has been drawn to the concerns of the boards of management and parents associations of Bishops Shanahan and Galvin schools in Templeogue, Dublin 16 who are endeavouring to make their school buildings and property more secure; if she will authorise the release of the necessary funds for work to commence in 1997 on the erection of a security fence around the school building; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [7930/97]

My Department's attention has been drawn to the problems caused by acts of vandalism at Bishops Shanahan and Galvin national schools, Templeogue, Dublin 16.

The schools have applied to my Department for grant aid towards the cost of erecting a security fence. However, due to the current level of contractual commitments on the primary capital subhead it is not possible to provide grant-aid for this project at present. The project will be considered in the context of future capital allocations.
