Written Answers. - Leaving Certificate Applied Examination.

253 Mr. Davern asked the Minister for Education her views on the failure to resolve the ongoing dispute which has led to the delay in the corrections of the tasks of the leaving certificate applied students of Cashel community school, County Tipperary; if her attention has been drawn to the concerns of these students who are anxious regarding their future; the steps, if any, which are being taken to resolve the dispute; and if she will make a statement on the matter. Following resolution of the element of the industrial dispute affecting the leaving certificate applied, arrangements have been made to reschedule the assessment of taskwork, originally scheduled for early February, in the period from 8 to 18 April 1997.

This information has been communicated to schools and examiners and it is intended that the arrangements for the rescheduled assessment will be made by mutual agreement between the schools and the examiners concerned.

I regret the inconvenience caused to schools, teachers, students and examiners as a result of this rescheduling and I wish to express my appreciation of their co-operation with the new arrangements.
