Vol. 477 No. 1

Written Answers. - Services for the Elderly.

John Browne

Ceist:

109 Mr. Browne (Wexford) asked the Minister for Health if he will allocate capital funding through the South Eastern Health Board to enable St. Brigid's Centre, Wexford, to proceed with its proposed extension as per plans submitted to his Department; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8575/97]

Hugh Byrne

Ceist:

110 Mr. H. Byrne asked the Minister for Health if his attention has been drawn to the excellent work being done at St. Brigid's Centre, Wexford; if his attention has further been drawn to an application for funding for an extension to the centre to meet the demand for services; if he will make a commitment to the centre in this regard; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8576/97]

Limerick East): I propose to take Question Nos. 109 and 110 together.

As the Deputy will be aware, the provision of day care centres for the elderly in the Wexford area is a matter for the South-Eastern Health Board. I understand from the board that the Wexford Social Services Council presented a development plan for St. Brigid's Centre, Wexford, to the board with a request for a capital grant to carry out the work involved. This application is being considered in the context of the availability of capital funding to my Department and the priority attached to this development by the South-Eastern Health Board vis-á-vis other capital projects in the board's area.
