Vol. 477 No. 2

Written Answers - Ministerial Staff.

Ivor Callely

Ceist:

52 Mr. Callely asked the Tánaiste and Minister for Foreign Affairs the total number of staff in his ministerial offices and his Ministers' of State offices; if he will give a breakdown of the status of all staff, whether temporary civil servants, permanent or non-established; if he will give comparison figures for the years 1988, 1993, 1995 and 1996; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8902/97]

The staff details of my offices and those of the Minister of State at the Department of Foreign Affairs and the Office of the Tánaiste since 1993 are matters of public record. To assist the Deputy, I refer him to my replies to the following questions: No. 79 on 10 February 1993; Nos. 51 and 52 on 16 February 1995; Nos. 60 and 66 on 9 March 1993; No. 124 on 11 March 1993; No. 113 on 4 May 1993; No. 42 on 14 June 1994; No. 58 on 24 January 1995; No. 66 on 7 June 1995; No. 59 on 19 October 1995; No. 62 on 14 February 1996; No. 45 on 25 July 1996; Nos. 58, 67 and 69 on 22 October 1996; No. 29 on 19 December 1996; No. 36 on 13 March 1997 and No. 71 on 25 March 1997.

There has been no change in the staffing levels in my offices and the offices of the Ministers of State at the Department of Foreign Affairs and the Offices of the Tánaiste, which are within Department of Finance guidelines, in the intervening period.

Comparable staffing details for 1988 are not readily available.
