Vol. 477 No. 6

Written Answers. - Schools Refurbishment.

Ned O'Keeffe

Ceist:

70 Mr. E. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Education the proposals, if any, she has to carry out refurbishment to a school (details supplied) in County Cork; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [10031/97]

The board of management of the school in question was recently given approval for the provision of three general classrooms in prefabricated accommodation. Subsequently, a letter was received from the board of management requesting the Department to fund the cost of the prefabricated accommodation and the board of management would pay the balance in order to build a permanent building.

My Department then agreed to allocate the school an all-inclusive grant for the work. The school's design team are preparing documentation for submission to the Department — i.e. drawings, specifications, tender documentation etc.

My Department is also considering the accommodation requirements for the school in the long-term. A schedule of overall accommodation was recently agreed between my Department and the board of management of the school.
