90 Mr. Martin asked the Minister for Education if she will sanction permanent appointments at St. Angela's College of Education, Lough Gill, County Sligo, in view of the fact that there are currently six temporary wholetime academic members of staff at St. Angela's, many of whom have been employed on a temporary basis for almost ten years. 91 Mr. Martin asked the Minister for Education if she has read the KPMG management consultants' forward plan for St. Angela's College of Education, Lough Gill, County Sligo; if she has endorsed the plan; and if she will provide additional resources to the college to ensure the implementation of the plan. I propose to take Questions Nos. 90 and 91 together.
A review group, under the auspices of the Higher Education Authority, is examining teacher supply and demand in the second level sector, including teachers of home economics.
Pending the outcome of this review it has not been possible to sanction the creation of permanent full-time posts in this case. I must also emphasise that it is necessary to operate within the overall constraints imposed by Government policy on public service numbers.
A report, drawn up by KPMG consultants, was commissioned by St Angela's on its own initiative on the current and future role of the college. The report was designed to analyse current and proposed developments, suggest additional strategies and draw up a framework for implementation. The report outlined a number of strategic development options open to St Angela's.
