Vol. 478 No. 3

Written Answers. - Civil Service Pensions.

Liam Aylward

Ceist:

121 Mr. Aylward asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the reason the forestry section of his Department refuses to have a pension paid to a widow (details supplied) in County Kilkenny whose late husband was in receipt of a forestry pension. [11015/97]

My Department had no option but to refuse payment recently of a widow's pension to the person in question because her late husband had not been a member of the contributory widows' and children's pension scheme introduced in 1979. The scheme was a contributory one providing a pension for the spouse and/or dependent children of those who opted to join it.
