138 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the reason for the delay in issuing payment of an overpayment deducted in error by his Department to a person (details supplied) in County Waterford in respect of a BSE suckler cow and beef top-up payment; and when these payments will issue. [11049/97]
Under the 1996 BSE compensation package the person concerned was entitled to BSE related top-up payments of £22.40 per animal in respect of 21 cows which qualified for payment under the 1995 suckler cow scheme and £19.08 per animal in respect of 19 steers which qualified for payment under the 1995 special beef premium scheme giving a total entitlement of £832.92. When payment of these top-ups was being made an amount of £790.83 was inadvertently deducted from the person's entitlement and a cheque for £42.09 issued on 8 October 1996.
I am making arrangements to have the outstanding entitlement paid without delay.
