Vol. 478 No. 5

Written Answers. - Installation Aid.

Hugh Byrne

Ceist:

142 Mr. H. Byrne asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if his attention has been drawn to the contribution which young farmers make to the development of agriculture and the economy generally; if he will ensure the continuation of the scheme in respect of young farmers; if he will increase the amount payable to young qualified farmers; if he will review the various restrictions applying to the scheme with a view to improving the overall operation of this scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11617/97]

In 1995, I introduced a revised scheme of installation aid for young farmers which considerably broadened the criteria for eligibility. The scheme continues in operation and, as with all measures under the Operational Programme for Agriculture, Rural Development and Forestry and other Operational Programmes, it is being examined in the context of the mid-term review of the Community Support Framework (CSF) as a whole. This review is still in progress.
