Vol. 478 No. 5

Written Answers. - Average Industrial Wage.

Ivor Callely

Ceist:

28 Mr. Callely asked the Taoiseach the average industrial wage for men and women in each of the past three year; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [11506/97]

The average gross weekly earnings of industrial workers on adult rates of pay in manufacturing industries for each of the years 1993, 1994 and 1995, the latest year for which an annual average figure is available, are as follows:

Year

Average Industrial Wage

Males

Females

£

£

1993

290.14

184.03

1994

297.56

191.27

1995

303.33

197.08

These figures include overtime, regular bonuses and service pay, shift and other allowances.
The overall estimates of gross weekly earnings for male and female industrial workers reflect their different composition in terms of occupations and industries as well as variations in wage rates and overtime levels. The average earnings, therefore, do not represent earnings for comparable work.
