I assume that the Deputy is referring to the position of staff in the college who are on temporary whole-time contracts and the question of making permanent appointments. A review group, under the auspices of the Higher Education Authority is examining teacher supply and demand in the second-level sector including teachers of home economics. Pending the outcome of this review it has not been possible to sanction the creation of permanent full-time posts in this case. I must also emphasise that it is necessary to operate within the overall constraints imposed by Government policy on public service numbers.
