Vol. 478 No. 7

Written Answers - Grant Payments.

Trevor Sargent

Ceist:

242 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry if a grant under the EU-funded control of farmyard pollution scheme was and remains approved in respect of an intensive agricultural development comprising a slatted shed and silage slab for persons (details supplied) in County Sligo; if so, the amount and the date on which it was approved; if the grant or any part of it was or is soon to be paid over to the persons; the size of the slatted shed for which grant aid under this scheme was approved; the length, width and depth of the slurry storage tanks in the slatted shed as measured on site by his Department; the date on which the tanks were measured; the estimated storage capacity of the silage slab; the date of his Department's most recent inspection of the site and development; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12246/97]

Approval under the control of farm pollution scheme issued on 19 December 1995 for the construction of a two bay double slatted shed 9.2m x 12m with solid animal feed area and two slatted tanks (12.5m x 3m x 2.4m) and related silage base. The approval was in line with the conditions set down by An Bord Pleanála. The capacity of the approved silage base is about 200 tonnes.

When an official from the Department inspected the completed works on 24 April 1996 they were found to exceed the area approved and the applicants were advised that there was a need to secure planning permission for the altered structure. I understand that local authority took a decision to grant planning permission for the revised structure on 27 January 1997. Prior to the granting of full planning permission, this was appealed to An Bord Pleanála.

Grant-aid, which has not been paid to date, will be paid provided the buildings completed are in line with all conditions set down by An Bord Pleanála and provided the necessary certificates are submitted. The level of grant payable will be limited to that set out in the original approval.

Brian Cowen
