Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 21 and the name of the member in each case: (1) Deputy Ferris — the need to amend the law to ensure that the Protection of Employees (Employers Insolvency) Act, 1984, applies to creditors of the Bell Lines freight group; (2) Deputy Lynch — the urgent need to ensure that all public buildings are made fully accessible to people with disabilities; (3) Deputy Power — the need for the Minister for Defence to clarify the subject matter of his reply to Parliamentary Question No. 7 of 29 April, 1997 concerning recruitment to the Defence Forces; (4) Deputy Cowen — the need for the Minister for Health to clarify the subject matter of his reply to Parliamentary Question No. 84 of 22 April, 1997 concerning the hospital waiting lists to the end of March 1997; (5) Deputies O'Rourke and Moffatt — the action being taken to prevent the loss of 320 jobs at the Asahi plant in Killala, County Mayo, one of the largest employers in the west and (6) Deputy Theresa Ahearn — the recent notice given to Newtown and Schronnell national schools in South Tipperary to the effect that each school will be reduced to a one teacher school in September, 1997.

The matters raised by Deputies Cowen, Ferris, O'Rourke, Moffatt and Power have been selected for discussion.
