Vol. 479 No. 1

Written Answers. - Home-School-Community Liaison Scheme.

Máirín Quill

Ceist:

63 Miss Quill asked the Minister for Education if she will appoint a home-school-community liaison teacher to a school (details supplied) in County Cork in view of the fact that this school meets all the necessary requirements of eligibility. [12420/97]

Since my appointment as Minister for Education I have allocated an additional 60 teaching posts at primary level to the home-school-community liaison scheme. This brings the total number of posts at primary level to 105.

My capacity to allocate additional resources to this scheme in any year is determined by resource availability and the level of competing demands from other special needs areas. I have to establish priorities and determine how best to deploy available resources across a wide range of special needs.
I can assure the Deputy that the needs of the school in question will be fully considered in the context of any future development of the home-school-community liaision scheme which may be undertaken.
