Vol. 479 No. 2

Adjournment Debate Matters.

An Leas-Cheann Comhairle

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 21 and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Ring — the protection to be given to local fishermen in Porturlin, Ballina, County Mayo, to prevent large Irish trawlers from entering their 12 mile fishing zone and damaging their crab pots; (2) Deputy Theresa Ahearn — the recent notice given to Newtown and Schronnell national schools in south Tipperary to the effect that each school will be reduced to a one teacher school in September 1997; (3) Deputy Kathleen Lynch — the urgent need to ensure that all public buildings are made fully accessible to people with disabilities; (4) Deputy Ó Cuív — the need to reverse the decision made in relation to staffing numbers in Scoil Chroí Íosa, Newcastle Road, Galway, for the school year 1997 to 1998 and to designate this school as a disadvantaged school; (5) Deputy Jacob — the need to provide adequate funding to deal with the accommodation crisis at St. Cronan's boys' national school, Bray, County Wicklow, to eliminate the critical fire and health hazards; (6) Deputy Dermot Ahern — the current industrial dispute at United Beverages, Dundalk, County Louth; (7) Deputy Martin — the ten year old dispute at the school of diagnostic imaging in University College Dublin and the threatened disruption of examinations because of the failure to transfer responsibility for the school from the Department of Health to the Department of Education with a view to standardising the status of the lecturers involved with that of their academic colleagues in University College Dublin.

The matters raised by the following Deputies have been selected for discussion: Deputies Martin, Theresa Ahearn, Ó Cuív and Jacob.
