Ceist:

85 Mr. M. Smith asked the Minister for Health when the new geriatric unit at the Hospital of the Assumption, Thurles, County Tipperary, will commence; and the amount of funds which are being provided in 1997's Estimate for this project. [12494/97]

Limerick East): The provision of long-stay unit in Thurles, County Tipperary is, in the first instance, a matter for the Mid-Western Health Board.

I am making a grant of £100,000 available to the Mid-Western Health Board in 1997 to enable the board to proceed with the early planning stages of the development.
