Ceist:

109 Mr. O'Donoghue asked the Minister for Justice the number of women in Irish prisons; the offences for which they were sentenced; the term of imprisonment imposed in each case; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [13071/97]

As on Monday, 12 May 1997 there were a total of 65 women in custody of whom 46 were sentenced offenders and 19 were on remand. A breakdown by offence and sentence length of those detained under sentence is set out in the following table:
