10 Mr. E. Byrne asked the Minister for the Environment the number of urban recycling projects currently in operation around the country; the further proposals, if any, he has for developing projects such as Kerbside; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [12910/97]
Information on the number and location of waste recycling facilities available throughout the country, and the operators of these facilities, is contained in the National Waste Database Report published by the Environmental Protection Agency in 1996. A list of recycling operators is maintained and updated regularly by ENFO, my Department's Environmental Information Service, and I am arranging for the current list to be sent to the Deputy.
As regards promoting the collection of segregated waste, my Department has provided capital grant assistance for Kerbside Dublin and for a number of other collection schemes. This capital assistance remains available for suitable large scale projects. It is intended also that segregated waste collection projects will be assisted by the industry-led REPAK initiative which is now being mobilised.
