Vol. 480 No. 2

Written Answers. - Means Assessment.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

279 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for Social Welfare the way in which means of £30 per week have been assessed against a person (details supplied) in County Kildare; the source from which the means are derived; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14065/97]

The person concerned is in receipt of unemployment assistance at a reduced rate on the basis of a means assessment of £33 per week. The means are derived from self employment and are based on the most recent figures available to the Department. He has been interviewed a number of times about his earnings from self-employment and the inspector is satisfied that the assessment is reasonable having regard to his circumstances. It is open to him to seek a further review of his means and a form for this purpose can be obtained at his nearest local office.
