Ceist:302 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if an early release will be considered in view of the medical condition of a person (details supplied) who has recently been in intensive care. [13812/97]
Written Answers. - Prisoner Release.
The particular prisoner referred to by the Deputy was convicted in the Special Criminal Court of a firearms offence and was sentenced to six years imprisonment. The prisoner was committed on 18 January 1996 and is due for release with normal remission on 19 July 2000. Having considered this case in some detail, I am not prepared to grant any period of temporary release at this stage. However, I have given instructions that this prisoner will continue to be given appropriate medical attention and that other conditions suitable to her particular circumstances be provided. The case will, of course, be kept under review.
