Ceist:

323 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for Education the current position on the application from St. Aidan's CBS, Whitehall, Dublin 9, for an ex-quota remedial teacher or family liaison officer; its position on the waiting list; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13472/97]

I am sure that the Deputy will appreciate that there are many competing demands for increased funding in all sectors of education. These demands are considered within the overall budgetary constraints. Unfortunately, in current circumstances, I am not in a position to allocate additional ex-quota remedial posts to second level schools. However, the position will be kept under review and St. Aidan's CBS, Whitehall, will be considered when next it is possible to increase the remediation service.

With regard to the allocation of a home-school liaison post to the school, it is the intention to continue the phased expansion of the home-school community liaison scheme as resources permit. I can assure you that St. Aidan's CBS will be given full consideration in the context of any further expansion of the scheme.
