Vol. 480 No. 2

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

John V. Farrelly

Ceist:

338 Mr. Farrelly asked the Minister for Education if his Department has agreed, in principle, to the building of a new school (details supplied) in County Meath; when the first stage of preparatory work will commence, in view of the fact that the present buildings are totally inadequate; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13806/97]

Because of the condition of the accommodation at the school referred to by the Deputy, the Department arranged for a technical assessment be carried out before any decision is made on whether to extend the existing school or provide a new school.

County Meath Vocational Education Committee appointed an architect to undertake the feasibility study and this was submitted to the Department and examined by the technical staff of the building unit. Further information is required in order to determine how best the needs of the school can be met and this has been requested of the consultants. The Department will be in contact with the County Meath Vocational Education Committee as soon as a decision has been made.

Dinny McGinley

Ceist:

339 Mr. McGinley asked the Minister for Education the plans, if any, he has to provide an extension to the Holy Trinity national school, Dunfanaghy, County Donegal; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13919/97]

My Department has examined the accommodation requirements of Holy Trinity national school, Dunfanaghy, and believes that the long-term accommodation needs will remain at the existing level of two classrooms. The position regarding funding to upgrade the present accommodation is that the capital available this year for primary schools has already been allocated and it is not possible to take on additional commitments at present. However, the matter will be considered again in the light of future capital allocations.
