362 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Education the current position regarding the application by a school (details supplied) in Dublin 11 for security fencing; and if he will give the necessary approval as a matter of urgency, in view of the fact that this school suffers from serious and frequent vandalism. [14076/97]

The Office of Public Works has recently reported to the planning and building unit of my Department on the application for a security fence by the school referred to by the Deputy. As soon as the report has been evaluated, my Department will be in contact with the school management.

Ceist:

363 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Education if he will report on the current situation regarding the application for security fencing from St. Kevin's national school, Finglas West, Dublin 11; and if he will give an undertaking that funding will be made available as soon as planning permission is obtained in order that work will be completed prior to the beginning of the new school year in this school which is particularly vulnerable to vandalism. [14077/97]

In May 1997, my Department advised the chairperson of St. Kevin's national school to submit an application to Fingal County Council for planning permission in respect of the proposed fence. On receipt of confirmation from the chairperson that planning permission has been granted, a decision on the timing of the tender and contract process will be taken in the light of other priority projects, and available financial resources.

364 Ms Shortall asked the Minister for Education if he will sanction the urgent upgrading and extension of a 250-year-old school (details supplied) in Dublin 9 in view of the unsatisfactory and unacceptable condition of this accommodation; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14078/97]

An architectural report on the school referred to by the Deputy is currently being examined by the planning and building unit in my Department. When this examination has been completed, my Department will be in touch with the school management.

Paul Bradford

Ceist:

366 Mr. Bradford asked the Minister for Education if he will ensure that the building of a new gaelscoil on a site at Summerhill, Mallow, County Cork will commence in 1997; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14080/97]

My Department is currently exploring the possibility of acquiring a site for the construction of a gaelscoil at Summerhill, Mallow. When this process has been completed satisfactorily, my Department will be in further contact with the school management. At this point it is not possible to state when building works will commence on site but every effort will be made to expedite the planning and construction of the school.
