Vol. 480 No. 2

Written Answers. - Dunnes Stores Payments Tribunal.

Pat Rabbitte

Ceist:

26 Mr. Rabbitte asked the Taoiseach the plans, if any, he has to amend the terms of reference of the Dunnes Stores Payments Tribunal in view of new disclosures at recent hearings; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [13719/97]

In view of the comprehensive statement made by Mr. Justice Brian McCracken, chairman of the tribunal, on 3 July 1997, I do not believe that it would be appropriate to seek to amend the terms of reference of the tribunal at this time.

I agree with the view expressed by the chairman that the appropriate time for the Houses of the Oireachtas to consider the nature and scope of any further inquiries into the so-called Ansbacher deposits would be when all evidence has been taken and the tribunal has reported.
