Ceist:

12 Mr. Barrett asked the Minister for the Marine if additional staff will be allocated to his Department in order to carry out the extra responsibilities allocated to him by the Taoiseach on the appointment of the Government. [14001/97]

Minister for the Marine (Dr. Woods)

I will ensure that the additional responsibilities assigned to the Department of the Marine and Natural Resources will be accompanied by appropriate staffing and other resources from the Departments heretofore responsible for them. The details are being worked out at present by officials from my Department, the Department of Finance, the Department of Agriculture, Food and Forstry and the Department of Transport, Energy and Communications.

It is my firm intention that sufficient high quality resources will be made available to the Department to allow it to discharge its new functions and role in maximising employment and contribution to economic development in the important areas under the aegis of my Department.
