Vol. 480 No. 5

Business of Dáil.

Before I call the Taoiseach on the Order of Business, I wish to make a brief comment. A complaint was made yesterday about the ringing of mobile phones in the Chamber. I indicated at that time that the Dáil Committee on Procedure and Privileges made rules banning the use of such phones in the Chamber. Since the Committee on Procedure and Privileges ban goes back to 1993, I re-emphasise today for the benefit of this Dáil that the use of mobile phones is totally banned in the Chamber, the lobbies, the press gallery, the visitors gallery and anywhere that could be seen to interfere with the proceedings of this House and its committees. I trust that Deputies and members in the press gallery will adhere to this ban and that there will be no further cause for complaint in the future.
