Vol. 480 No. 6

Written Answers - Ordnance Survey Office.

Noel Ahern

Ceist:

226 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for Finance if he will expand on the plans for the Ordnance Survey Office as mentioned in the 1997 budget speech; if he will grant semi-State status to the office; if legislation will be required; if the Valuation Office or other sections will be included; the target date for these changes; if Defence Force staff will be integrated into the Civil Service; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14977/97]

My predecessor has established an interim board to examine the future of the Ordnance Survey Office and its report is expected in due course. I will consider the report before making any firm decisions on this matter. The future of the Valuation Office will not be a matter for the board's consideration. In respect of Defence Force staff assigned to the Ordnance Survey Office, ongoing discussions are taking place between the Department of Defence, this Department and the Ordnance Survey Office regarding future arrangements for the personnel involved.
