Vol. 480 No. 6

Written Answers - Garda Stations.

Noel Ahern

Ceist:

229 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for Finance the current position with the plans to build a new garda station in Ballymun, Dublin 11; if a new site has been acquired; the progress, if any, made on these plans; if provision will be included in the 1998 Estimates; the reason for the delay; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [14993/97]

The Commissioners of Public Works have, for some time, been in discussion with Dublin Corporation, which owns much of the land in Ballymun with the aim of obtaining a suitable site for a new Garda station in the area. The corporation has been unable to commit itself to providing a site pending decisions being taken on the redevelopment programme for the Ballymun area. The Commissioners are now engaged in discussions with Ballymun Regeneration Limited, the company set up to carry out this programme. Work on the design of a new Garda station cannot commence until a suitable site is obtained. The question of providing in the Estimates for the building of a new station does not arise at this stage.
