Vol. 480 No. 6

Written Answers - Cultural Development Plan.

Enda Kenny

Ceist:

432 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands the action, if any, she has taken and is taking to require all local authorities to produce a three-year cultural development plan as outlined in the Programme for Government; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [14826/97]

This Government's Action Programme for the Millennium identifies as a key priority a requirement that local authorities would produce a three year cultural development plan. While the statutory responsibility for local authority activities rests with my colleague the Minister for the Environment, the arts plan of An Chomhairle Ealaíon identified the need for three year arts development plans in all local authority areas, and An Chomhairle has offered technical assistance and other support to enable a number of local authorities to draw up such plans to date. I understand that it is the intention of An Chomhairle to continue its dialogue with local authorities until this process has been completed.
