Vol. 480 No. 6

Written Answers - Dublin Centre for Performing Arts.

Enda Kenny

Ceist:

442 Mr. Kenny asked the Minister for Arts, Heritage, Gaeltacht and the Islands the action, if any, she has taken to date to set up a Dublin centre for performing arts incorporating a conservatoire; the scope and scale of such a centre; the estimated cost of such a proposal; if she has decided on a location for the Dublin centre; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [14837/97]

Both the PIANO and FORTE reports recommended the establishment of an Irish Academy for the Performing Arts. However, the Deputy will appreciate that while this is a matter of cultural significance, the question of establishing such an academy is primarily a matter for my colleague the Minister for Education. Preliminary discussions have already taken place at official level between my Department and the Department of Education on how best to proceed.
