473 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the steps, if any, which will be taken to bring Garda numbers back up to the 1996 strength at the very least, further to his reply to Parliamentary Question No. 298 of 9 July 1997. [14492/97]
The Garda authorities are responsible for the allocation of Garda personnel to individual areas. I am assured by them that the policing needs of all areas are kept under continued review and changes made as necessary. They have informed me that when additional personnel become available the needs of the Kevin Street Garda District, and indeed all districts, will be fully considered.
