Vol. 480 No. 6

Written Answers - Ministerial Appointments.

John V. Farrelly

Ceist:

531 Mr. Farrelly asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform if he or Ministers of State at his Department have appointed a programme manager or a special adviser or both; if so, the salary paid to them; the terms of their contracts; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15012/97]

It is not my intention or that of the Minister of State at my Department to appoint a programme manager. I have appointed a special adviser at an annual salary of £ 36,757.00 to a temporary unestablished position in the Civil Service. My predecessor had a programme manager at an annual salary of £ 45,525 and the Minister for Equality and Law Reform had a programme manager and two special advisers at a total annual cost of £ 117,772. The Minister of State has not appointed a special adviser. My responsibilities encompass the portfolios of my two ministerial predecessors - responsibilities which are carried out at a saving of £ 126,540 per annum in equivalent non-established civil servants.
