Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 21 and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Kirk — the need to reconsider a recently introduced practice by the Revenue Commissioners where a farmer is liable to be charged interest at the rate of 18.75 per cent unless 90 per cent of his final tax liability at 31 March 1998 is paid by October 1997; (2) Deputy Higgins (Mayo) — the urgent need to provide a new Garda station to replace the existing station at Claremorris, County Mayo; (3) Deputy Deasy — the need to provide financial assistance to grain farmers and apple growers in southern parts of the country who have suffered huge losses due to unprecedented rainfall; (4) Deputy Ellis — the proposed redundancies at Ballinamore Textiles, Ballinamore, County Leitrim; (5) Deputy Donal Moynihan — a report on the progress made in relation to the live cattle and beef trade in Egypt following his recent visit; (6) Deputy Richard Bruton — the need to appoint an independent panel of examiners to invigilate the rechecking of honours English leaving certificate papers; (7) Proinsias De Rossa — the assault on an Irish citizen at Speke Airport, Liverpool by British police officers and the need to raise the matter with the British authorities; (8) Deputy Higgins (Dublin West) — the proliferation of masts for the mobile phone system in both urban and rural Ireland which is giving rise to serious public concern on environmental and health grounds; (9) Deputy Shortall — the need to discuss yesterday's incident in Dublin city where a Spanish student's leg was broken after two muggers drove their motorbike at her and what action the Minister intends to take; (10) Deputy Shatter — the ill-treatment of an Irish citizen by the English authorities upon his arrival in Liverpool yesterday; (11) Deputy Broughan — the need to discuss the alleged assault on an individual by British special branch officers in Liverpool's Speke Airport and in Belle Vale police station where the individual was detained; (12) Deputy Deenihan — the provision of the necessary funding to enable stage four of the Listowel regional water scheme to go ahead.

The matters raised by Deputies De Rossa, Deasy, Shortall and Richard Bruton have been selected for discussion.
