Vol. 480 No. 7

Written Answers. - Light Rail Project.

Ivor Callely

Ceist:

75 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Public Enterprise the main issues of concern which have been brought to her attention regarding the proposed light rail network; and if she will make a statement on the matter. [15095/97]

On 1 May 1997 CIE submitted their formal application for a light railway order for the Tallaght-Dundrum light rail line. Under the Transport (Dublin Light Rail) Act, 1996 any person had the right to make written submissions to me in relation to the proposed light railway order. The final date for such submissions was 4 July on which date a total number of 87 submissions had been received.

The submissions received, some of which are supportive of light rail, raised some concerns on such issues as the disruption caused to businesses during construction, effect on personal and commercial property, acquisition of property, restoration of original light rail route through Inchicore-Kilmainham, visual impact, vibration and noise impact and the question of putting light rail underground in the city centre.
