Written Answers. - Ministerial Appointments.

Bernard Allen

Ceist:

79 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Defence the appointments made by him through his personal office since being appointed, including programme managers, advisers, special advisers, constituency personnel and all appointments other than Civil Service appointments; the salary being paid per annum in each case; and if he will give the same information in relation to Ministers of State at his Department. I have appointed a special adviser who is an existing civil servant of the Department in receipt of a salary of £36,757 per annum. In his capacity as my special adviser he receives an additional allowance of £3,676. I have also appointed my personal secretary (formerly Dáil secretary) at a salary of £15,822 per annum. I have yet to fill a vacancy for a personal assistant who, when appointed, will be paid on the minimum point of the higher executive officer salary scale. Details of the appointment of a part-time press consultant have been dealt with in the following table.

The Minister of State at the Department has made no appointments through his personal office.

Six consultancy contracts have been awarded. The details are as follows:

To examine the Oil Wharf at Naval Base, Haulbowline, to indicate repair work required and to oversee the repair to final completion.

Estimated fee: £30,616.33. Fee is based on an estimated project cost of £175,000; actual fee will depend on final project cost.

Marine Engineering Consultancy

To assist with the evaluation of tenders for a new Fishery Protection Vessel and to ensure the best modern practices and technology are incorporated in the vessel chosen.

Stg£39,325. Contract fixed with a liability limit of Stg£41,000; cost will be based on vouched expenses and hours worked.

PARC Ltd. Personnel Consultant

Provision of assistance with the recruitment of cadets for the Defence Forces.

£66,500.

Mary Murphy Associates

Provision of Public Relations Services for a period of up to one year. Contract to commence on submission of Tax Clearance Certificate.

£1,000 per month plus VAT.

Aer Rianta

To monitor building proposals in the vicinity of Casement Aerodrome.

£2,500 per annum.

Byrne, Mullins and Associates Archaeological Consultants

Provision of advice in relation to archaeological sites at the Curragh.
