Vol. 480 No. 7

Written Answers. - Garda Stations.

Breeda Moynihan-Cronin

Ceist:

105 Mrs. Moynihan-Cronin asked the Minister for Justice, Equality and Law Reform the current situation regarding the refurbishment of the Garda station in Kenmare, County Kerry; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15088/97]

A contract was placed in July for the refurbishment of the station which will cost approximately £200,000. The gardaí moved into temporary accommodation on 24 July and the contractor commenced work that week. It is expected that it will take about 19 weeks to complete the project.

The works will consist of repairs, renovations and alterations to the building to provide a new public office — relocated from the annex to the centre of the building to give it more prominence — new sergeant's office, interview room, doctor's room, cell, stores, kitchen, locker room, shower and toilets. The building will be rewired and a new heating system will be installed. Cabling for information and communications technology will also be provided.
