Vol. 480 No. 8

Written Answers. - Schools Building Projects.

Charles Flanagan

Ceist:

115 Mr. Flanagan asked the Minister for Education and Science if his attention has been drawn to the serious problem facing teachers, parents and pupils at St. Mary's secondary school, Edenderry, County Offaly, a school which has had an enrolment far in excess of that envisaged by his Department resulting in an urgent need for extended facilities to cater for pupils; when appropriate capital works will commence; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [15225/97]

An extension has been approved by my Department for Edenderry secondary school. The design team has been appointed and architectural planning of the project is currently under way, the outline sketch scheme is being prepared by the school's design team and upon receipt of same in my Department the project will be progressed further.

At this early stage of architectural planning it is not possible to give a commencement date for construction. However, every effort will be made to progress this project through the planning stages so that construction can begin at the earliest possible date.
