16 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Finance the taxation commitments which were made by the Government in An Action Programme for the Millennium; the way in which these will be implemented; and when they will be implemented. [15637/97]
The Action Programme for the Millennium, including the taxation commitments, will be implemented over the course of the next five years. However, as stated in the programme, the full implementation of the measures will depend on continued strong growth in the economy, as all policies will be subject to the overriding requirement to stay within the terms of the EU stability and growth pact and the Maastricht criteria.
The precise measures being introduced in the forthcoming budget will be announced in the budget on 3 December.
