Written Answers - Nursing Home Subvention.
At 30 June 1997 11,546 applicants had been approved for a nursing home subvention. At the same period 5,770 individuals were in receipt of a subvention. There is no definite information available to my Department regarding the number of people in receipt of a subvention who are also in receipt of a social welfare allowance. However, given that the subvention grant is means tested, it can be assumed that a large proportion of the recipients would be non-contributory old age pensioners.
