Vol. 481 No. 5

Written Answers - Health Centres.

Jack Wall

Ceist:

91 Mr. Wall asked the Minister for Health and Children the reason for the hold-up in relation to the health centre in Athy, County Kildare; if he will give details of the new contract; the starting date in this regard; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16636/97]

I have been advised by the Eastern Health Board that the reason for the delay in starting work on the health centre in Athy, County Kildare, is that the contractor who was originally awarded the contract has since gone into liquidation.

The technical services section of the Eastern Health Board has now negotiated a new contract with the next lowest tenderer for this development.

I am pleased to inform the Deputy that work commenced on Athy health centre on 8 October 1997 and that it is expected that work will finish at the end of July 1998.
