Vol. 481 No. 6

Written Answers - Tourism Angling Promotion.

Bernard Allen

Ceist:

107 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for the Marine and Natural Resources his views on whether there is a need for a more promotional strategy for tourism angling; and if he will allocate sufficient funds in this regard. [16789/97]

Statutory responsibility for tourism promotion and the promotion of angling is vested in Bord Fáilte and the central and regional fisheries boards respectively and I do not have a direct function in these matters. These organisations work closely in relation to the development and promotion of tourism angling and have funding at their disposal under the tourism operational programme for this purpose.

The mid-term review of the Operational Programme for Tourism identified a need to establish closer linkages between investment in tourism product development and marketing. Specific proposals are being finalised on enhancing the linkages between investment in tourism angling development and investment in the promotion and marketing of the tourism angling product.
I will arrange for the Deputy to be advised of developments.
