Vol. 481 No. 6

Written Answers - Tourist Information Systems.

Bernard Allen

Ceist:

134 Mr. Allen asked the Minister for Tourism, Sport and Recreation if he has satisfied himself with the current brief and operation of the Gulliver Information and Reservation System; and if he will make a statement on the current position regarding this system. [16788/97]

The Government agreed last April to the sale of a 74 per cent stake in Gulliver, the computerised tourist information and reservation system, developed jointly by Bord Fáilte, BFE, and the Northern Ireland Tourist Board, NITB, to the Foreign Exchange Company of Ireland Limited, Fexco. A new joint venture company, in which Bord Fáilte and the Northern Ireland Tourist Board together have a 26 per cent shareholding — the remainder is held by Fexco — is, as a result, solely responsible for the management and operation of the Gulliver network.
