Vol. 481 No. 6

Written Answers - School Integration Initiative.

John Bruton

Ceist:

138 Mr. J. Bruton asked the Minister for Education and Science if he will indicate which 40 schools have been chosen to be part of the school integration initiative as schools with a good practice in information and communications technologies which can be used as demonstration and dissemination resources for information technology to other schools. [16703/97]

The Deputy's question is relevant to a specific section within the policy framework document on ICTs which the Department of Education and Science will shortly publish. This section provides for the establishment of a school integration project whereby approximately 40 schools with varied experience in the use of multimedia computers will engage in pilot projects designed to foster and disseminate good ICT practice across the entire school system. This initiative, including the selection of schools, will be co-ordinated by the National Centre for Technology Education, NCTE, in consultation with the Department of Education and Science. I will establish the NCTE in Dublin City University in the near future and this will clear the way for the involvement of schools in the school integration project. I expect that the fruits of this project will have a very significant impact on the deployment of ICTs within the education system generally.
