When Deputy Michael Smith was appointed Minister of State with responsibility for science and technology in my Department I assigned to him responsibility for matters relating to scientific and technological research and development in the third level education sector. I have assigned the same responsibility to his successor, the Minister of State, Deputy Noel Treacy.
