Vol. 481 No. 6

Written Answers - College Places.

Andrew Boylan

Ceist:

43 Mr. Boylan asked the Minister for Education and Science if his attention has been drawn to the fact that some students who obtained additional marks in rechecks, forfeited their opportunity to pursue their chosen careers due to the delay in issuing the revised marks; whether his Department has made contact with the students and colleges concerned; and, if so, if he has secured places for these students. [16676/97]

The outcome of the leaving certificate appeal process was available on 1 October which was the date publicised earlier this year. I am aware that on 6 October the Central Applications Office offered a guaranteed place in 1998 to a small number of students. This was confined to a limited number of courses and in some colleges only. In each case, following consultations between my Department and the colleges, the students concerned are being offered places this year.
