47 Mr. Broughan asked the Minister for Education and Science the discussions, if any, he has had with the Teachers' Union of Ireland and the regional technical college authorities regarding the current threatened dispute; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [16711/97]
Negotiations on claims by the Teachers' Union of Ireland on behalf of academic staff in the regional technical colleges, Waterford Institute of Technology and the Dublin Institute of Technology are ongoing within the framework of the conciliation and arbitration scheme for teachers. These discussions are under the chairmanship of an independent facilitator. All matters pertaining to these discussions are confidential and it would be inappropriate for me to comment while the negotiations are ongoing.
