Written Answers - Examination Appeals Process.

Ceist:

72 Ms McManus asked the Minister for Education and Science the current cost of appeals on marking of examination papers for the junior and leaving certificates; the financial assistance, if any, available for those on low incomes who wish to appeal; if he will consider instituting a system of refunds where appeals are successful; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The leaving certificate appeal fee is £25 per subject. The junior certificate fee is £20 per subject. There is only one fee rate for each exam and there is no waiver or alleviation of the fee. In all cases where an appeal is successful the fee is refunded.
