Vol. 482 No. 3
407 Mr. P. Carey asked the Minister for Education and Science the proportion of male and female participants on VTOS schemes; and his views on whether measures are necessary to provide a greater balance between the sexes. [18003/97]
The total number of VTOS participants at 1 January 1997 was 4,407.
Of these 2,377, or 54 per cent were female and 2,030, or 46 per cent were male, which is a reasonable balance between the sexes.
408 Mr. P. Carey asked the Minister for Education and Science the number of students currently attending VTOS courses for each county; the total weekly cost to his Department of these courses; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18005/97]
The number of students attending VTOS for each county for September 1997 is set out in the following table.
The financial out-turn for 1996 indicated an average weekly cost of £439,063. No significant change is expected on the basis of the 1997 out-turn.
